Welcome to NAIT

Charity stock donation

The NAIT scheme is mandatory for cattle and deer wherever they are in New Zealand. This includes when they are donated to charity.

Donating animals

To meet your NAIT requirements when donating stock you must:

  • be registered with NAIT as a person in charge of animals (PICA)
  • tag and register your animals in the NAIT system before they are donated, and
  • record the sending movement of the animals to the receiving PICAs NAIT number.

Because each charity scheme is different, we recommend you contact your charity scheme coordinator for information about how they are managing NAIT requirements. Some charities may use donated services of NAIT accredited information providers which can carry out the movement recording obligations.

Receiving donated animals

To meet your NAIT requirements when receiving donated animals you must:

  • be registered with NAIT as a person in charge of animals (PICA)
  • make sure all animals received are NAIT tagged, and
  • confirm the senders movements of the animals or complete a receiving movement yourself by providing the tag numbers of the animals you received.

Charities

You may want to consider becoming NAIT accredited, so you can carry out NAIT requirements on behalf of animal donors.
