Receiving exempt animals
Fallow and trophy deer are exempt from the requirement to be NAIT tagged. However, you must still confirm the movement of these animals.
Under the NAIT scheme, exempt animal movements must be recorded by both the sending and receiving parties. All movements of animals must be confirmed as being received within 48 hours of the animals arriving.
If you are receiving exempt animals from a NAIT accredited provider, you must still confirm the movement yourself.
How to confirm a movement
The sending party should record the exempt animal movement in the NAIT system within 48 hours. This will create an alert to you that animals have been recorded as being sent to your NAIT number.
If you have your email notifications on, you will receive an email advising you that animals have been sent to your NAIT number. You will need to log on to the NAIT system to confirm the movement.
When you log on to the NAIT system, you will see a message alerting you to movement records that need attention. You can then view and confirm or reject the movement. If you reject the movement because the sender has made an error, the movement will be removed from your account. The sender will then need to correct the movement and recreate it. If there is a dispute or the movement does not get resolved, please call us for assistance on 0800 624 843.
How to create a receiving movement
If the sending party does not record the exempt animal sending movement, you can:
- contact the sender and ask them to record the movement, or
- create an exempt animal receiving movement yourself.
Creating an exempt animal receiving movement means you are still able to meet your NAIT requirements even if the sender has not done their side of the movement.
