Registering and updating animals
Once you have tagged an animal with a NAIT RFID tag, you must register the animal in the NAIT system within one week or before it moves off farm - whichever is soonest. Registration links individual animals to tags in the NAIT system so they can be traced. Registration of your animals will also enable them for lifetime traceability.
To register an animal you will need to provide:
- the animal's NAIT RFID or Visual ID number
- animal type
- production type
- animal date of birth, and
- NAIT number of birthplace.
Other information can also be uploaded, such as gender and alternative visual identifiers.
Updating animal details
After you have registered an animal, you need to make sure the NAIT system is kept up to date. You can choose to edit an animal's details, or change its status. An animal's status must be correct. This means you must update it if an animal dies, is exported live, or goes missing.
Registering exempt animals
As fallow and trophy deer are exempt from tagging requirements they cannot be individually registered in the NAIT system. However you must still record how many of these animals are on your property. This number needs to be updated annually.
