Welcome to NAIT

Home kill

The death of an animal must be recorded in the NAIT system within 48 hours.

On farm slaughter

You must record the death of an animal if it was born after 1 July 2012, is NAIT tagged and registered and is slaughtered on your property.

You do not need to record the death of an animal if:

  • it was born before 1 July 2012
  • it has not moved off your property since then
  • it was not NAIT tagged or registered, and
  • it was killed on your property.

Off farm slaughter

If you move an animal off your property to be slaughtered by a home kill operator, you must record the movement to that operator.

The home kill operator will then be in charge of the animal and will be responsible for recording that animal's death in the NAIT system.
